About Archivio Call: Tape Holder

Open Call

2026

For this project, we set out to reinterpret existing components and transform them into what we call a functional ready-made. The selected piece demonstrates remarkable versatility: its components can be found anywhere and assembled at any time, without the need for additional parts. Made entirely from standard hardware components such as a ceramic hole cutter, elevator bolts, hex nuts, and large washers, it embodies the principles of open design: a philosophy founded on accessibility, transparency, and user autonomy.

Its construction can be easily replicated or adapted by anyone, anywhere, shifting value from exclusive production to the shared potential of simple, universally available materials.

What defines the essence of an object? How can we question and redefine its role? This exercise invites us to broaden our perception and reconsider the intrinsic function of the objects we interact with every day. The resulting piece becomes a manifesto on function and behavior, prompting us to question habitual interactions and explore how routine can be transformed when approached with a more nuanced and open-minded approach. Finally, the use of two rolls of tape as a base ensures a continuous cycle of functionality: when one roll runs out, it can be replaced with the spare one used as a base, while the empty roll becomes the structural skeleton that maintains the piece's balance.
